How to check Bitcoin wallet Balance?

Failing Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox is currently allowing its users to log on to their accounts once again, after nearly three weeks of it filing for bankruptcy protection. A few users have reported on seeing the accurate amount of balances, but other users have expressed concerns on the site being hacked an the new login facility may be a hoax to steal users information and bitcoin.

“We believe this is an authentic notice on the website and we are confirming with the legal team, ” a call center staffer said on Tuesday.

Another staffer had earlier reported that they where unable to speak on the reactivation of logins due to the current orders by the Tokyo District Court, adding that the database cannot be accessed while the case is going under investigation by the court. Mt.Gox lawyers have not been able to be reached at the moment.

A notice that was posted on Tuesday by the websites and confirmed by the call centers, invites former users to log on to check their Bitcoin wallet balances. This has been the first time since the Tokyo-based exchange went offline back in Feb.25, that it could be accessible.

Users have noted that the reopening has only confirmed what they had known before the exchange’s meltdown and their coins still remain stuck in limbo.

“The site shows the coins, but it indicates it has no real meaning with respect to claims, ” said an investor who wishes to currently stay anonymous. His balance indicates about 464 bitcoins (roughly US$286, 700 according to average bitcoin prices on other exchanges).

“So, just numbers on a screen — just as ‘real’ as they were before Gox went down, ” he said in an email interview.

This user was one of the many, who has filed a fraud complaint against the exchange with Tokyo police, was referring to the legalese on the page citing Mt. Gox’s pending status under Japan’s Civil Rehabilitation Act.

“Please be aware that confirming the balance on this site does not constitute a filing of rehabilitation claims under the civil rehabilitation procedure and note that the balance amounts shown on this site should also not be considered an acknowledgment by MtGox Co., Ltd. of the amount of any rehabilitation claims of users, ” the exchange said on its website.
