Bitcoin wallet QT encryption

When you download a client (wallet) for the crypto currency of your choice they have an option to encrypt (password) the client (wallet).

In this example we will be encrypting the Bitcoin wallet (Bitcoin Core client-qt) although most of the wallets work the same way as they are all based off of bitcoin.

After you have installed your wallet to your desktop computer open the wallet up. wait for the blockchain to download and that may take several hours to days depending on your internet connection and processor speed. You can always download the blockchain in a torrent file that will help save alt of time.

Step (1). Now that your wallet is open, at the top you will see a toolbar with a menu, click on settings and then encrypt wallet. See picture below.

Step (2). You will now have another window popup asking you to enter your passphrase and reenter your passphrase again. Below you will see a picture of the new window. Your passphrase must contain 10 or more random character, or eight or more words. The requirements may very from wallet to wallet. Make sure you remember this passphrase or your write it down and put it in a safe spot. If you can not remember your passphrase your bitcoins are lost forever on that private key.

Just that like you are now done and your Bitcoins are protected with your very on passphrase. Never forget your passphrase and never give the passphrase to ANYONE. This passphrase is to be kept secret for you and you only. If anyone asks for your passphrase they are most likely wanting to try and access your bitcoins DO NOT give your passphrase out.
