How To Recover Your Bitcoin Wallet?
by Shawn Wilkinson
So now that we have a little bit of Bitcoin in our wallet we are going to do soemthing crazy. We are going to delete our test wallet. Why? Well of course the main feature of Bitcoin Armory is coin security. So don't we want to test that out before we start storing large amounts money?
Goodbye Test Wallet
First, open up our 'Test Wallet' by double clicking on it. This will open up the 'Wallet Properties' screen.
From there you can click on the 'Delete/Remove' Wallet. If you live life dangerously and didn't save a paper backup, you should click on the 'Backup This Wallet' first and complete that. After the next step your Bitcoins will be gone forever without a backup.
Restoring Test Wallet
Now that our wallet is deleted, we want to restore it and get our Bitcoin's back.
- Unless you used a diffrent method 'Single-Sheet Backup' is the correct option
Enter in the 'root key' from your paper wallet.
Mini-Puzzle: There is enough info in the above screenshot to recover the test wallet (don't do this! never show anyone your root key!). If you can recover it feel free to keep the coins you find in there.
Make sure that the Wallet ID is the same on the paper backup.
Then Armory will ask to enter a new password for the wallet. Armory will also have to rescan the database which will take 5-20 minutes to complete. After that process is done the wallet should reappear like nothing every happened.
