How to use Bitcoin wallet Android?

The recommended Android Bitcoin Client by Andreas Schildbach can be downloaded from the Android market here, or by scanning this QR Code:

Using this SmartPhone app, you can send Bitcoin between phones just by scanning the QR code that is displayed by the app. Or via NFC (Near Field Communication). You can also send/receive Bitcoins to or from any other Bitcoin client on the Bitcoin network.

Below is a screenshot of the main window. Hover your mouse over the red squares for a description of what each section does. Some sections might be links to other help pages that provide more detail and descriptions.

  • By pressing the “QR” button at the top right, you can use a barcode scanner app to read in someone’s Bitcoin address QR code rather than manually typing it in the Bitcoin address field.
  • The “Available for spending” amount may be different that your balance if you have recently sent or received Bitcoins. A certain amount of confirmations on previous transactions must be made before all of your Bitcoins will be available for spending. Depending on the transaction fees attached to the transactions and luck, it could take a few minutes to a several hours to make the funds available.
  • “Amount to pay” is self explanatory. Unfortunately, you must do any currency exchange calculations on your own. Perhaps Andreas can find a solution for us in a future release of his Bitcoin client.
  • Transaction Fees are always optional, but it’s also optional for the network to confirm them. If you give the network incentive (a fee) it will be more likely that your transaction gets confirmed in a timely manner. The default is acceptable but if you’re crunched for time, more is always better.
