Make offline Bitcoin wallet

How secure is your bitcoin wallet? Well that all depends on how you created your bitcoin wallet. If you do your research, you will find you have various options for making a wallet. The wallets we are talking about here are for larger/longer term accounts. Keep your day to day bitcoin in your web online wallets but for your big savings account use this approach.

So this method we are using is one of the most secure and involves creating your wallet offline using a bootable disk (optical drive) and wallet creation software. This kind of wallet goes by various names like offline wallet or physical wallet or hardware or cold storage bitcoin wallet. It is not hackable due to the way you will create it.

If you want to get everything yourself and make one of these wallets then here are the steps to follow:

1. Create and use a bootable CD/DVD often called a Live CD. We use Ubuntu (Linux). It is easy to use and instruction on how to use Ubuntu are in the kit. Most systems will boot (start up from the CD/DVD) if it is inserted in the drive before rebooting. If that does not work you can change the BIOS (by hitting certain keys – ask your motherboard manufacturer) and then you can set up your BIOS to start from the optical drive and not the hard drive. Remember to switch back when this is all over.

2. Once you have the computer running on the OS off or from the CD/DVD (not your hard drive) you then physically disconnect your computer from the internet and run the wallet creation software to create the bitcoin public address and private key. Doing this offline and not on your hard drive leaves no trace of your wallet information so it can not be hacked off your system or any other system online.
