Alright here is the exciting conclusion to my post on making your own P2Pool Bitcoin Node. Most of this information can be found at the main website, P2Pool.in, I am just including it in this post in an effort to be complete and get you up and running in the P2Pool world.

11) First in foremost, let’s make sure we have all necessary prerequisites:

# apt-get install git # if git is not installed # git clone apt-get install python-twisted python-argparse python-imaging screen12) Make sure Bitcoin is running. You must make sure that the blockchain has completed downloading before you move forward with this step. Refer to the previous part of this post for instruction on that. In order to make sure Bitcoin is running you can type

# BitcoindIf it is running, you should receive an error saying so. If it wasn’t running, you should have seen a message saying “Bitcoin Server is Starting”. Wait about a minute and proceed.

13) Move to the p2pool directory. Type python run_p2pool.py

# cd p2pool # python_run.p2pool.pyAnd that is it! That was easy, huh? There are a lot more complicated steps you can take to customize your P2Pool function, but I will leave that for another post, as I myself have not gotten through all of them or even how they work. I will be sure to keep you updated as I muck through it all, but this will get you running for now!

Just point miners to with HOST being the IP address of the computer running P2Pool. The username can be your payout Bitcoin address or anything that describes the miner if you prefer to mine into your Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind wallet. Use any password; it is ignored by P2Pool. When mining on the same machine, you can use 127.0.0.1 as the P2Pool host.

Unless your miners have Bitcoin addresses as usernames, payouts will go to Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind’s wallet. You can look at P2Pool’s web interface, which has statistics and graphs, by going to in a browser – if you’re looking at this tutorial on the same host that P2Pool is running.
