QT Bitcoin wallet unconfirmed

Bitcoin Installation WizardIn this lesson, I am going to take you through downloading and installing the official Bitcoin wallet (Bitcoin-QT). You can follow along in the video tutorial, or read below if you prefer.

The first thing you will need to do, is get yourself a Bitcoin wallet. These can either be installed on your machine, mobile phone, on the web, or even on paper, just like the money you will already be familiar with. In this case, to get started, we are going to install a wallet onto our computer. In this case the full Bitcoin client wallet from the download page on Bitcoin.org.

Bitcoin Wallet Asking for Access Through the Firewall to visit the direct download page. As you will see it is available for most platforms. I will be using Windows in this tutorial. Once you have selected your platform you will be taken to the SourceForge download page where your download should automatically start.

Bitcoin Wallet Downloading Block ChainDouble click the downloaded exe file to start the introduction. An installation wizard should open to help guide you through the process. I selected the defaults, but you might want to change things.

You should note that the first time you run the Bitcoin-QT wallet, it will need to download the block chain (a full record of all the transactions ever made). This can take some time, so it might be best to leave it synchronising over night.

Upon opening the Bitcoin wallet, you might be asked to allow it access through your firewall. It needs to do this in order to communicate with the network and download the block chain.

Bitcoin Wallet Balances

Once open you will see that there are two icons in the bottom right. One will show you how many active connections you have to the Bitcoin network, the other will either have a circular arrow, which indicates that it is in the process of synchronising, or a green tick indicating that it is up to date.

Looking at the top left of the wallet you can see your current balance, both confirmed and unconfirmed. Transaction remain unconfirmed until they have been marked as confirmed by at least six nodes on the Bitcoin peer-to-peer network.
